Today was spent networking and getting the word out. As most of you know, I was on Crackbook steady today. Telling everyone I could about this. So I guess I spent it doing viral marketing. I hope all of you who have and are visiting the site are sharing it with as many people as possible! This is going to be a wild ride with lots of opportunity that I hope to share with a large group of people! There will be opportunities created by bringing "like minded" people into the same place to share their ideas. Think about what we could create together!
Other than spreading the word and the event which I wrote about earlier, I didn't do too much. It's 6:30 pm right now and I am still sitting at work so I can make use of the internet access.
OH! One thing that happened was, I was speaking to an old family friend today and he suggested getting a video on youtube to helpl promote "One Year to Freedom". Great idea and I do have someone doing that for me! THANKS JOANNE! But I'd like to put the first challenege out there. I would like everyone to think of a quick 30 second or so commercial for us. Funny, Inspirational, Educational... whatever.... Just make it original and appealing! In fact I will post them on here if I can figure that out and we will allow people to vote for the best one!
We're a small group now but in the months to come watch us grow! You will be the face of our creation!
One last big thanks goes out to Darryl MacPherson, who has donated a bunch of inspirational thoughts which will be added to our gadgets on the right side of the blog to keep us going while we're feeling low. Darryl has inspired me to gain control of my mind and use it in a more constructive and creative manner. That mentality has brought me here today and will aid me in my quest to become financially free.
See you gusy tomorrow!
VIVA LA VIDA!

I just got off the phone with an old friend who moved out the the BC coast a few years back. As a lot of you know, I was on facebook spreading the word about this site and I contacted him. After coming and reading what I was up to he immediately asked me for my number.
After exchanging pleasantries and catching up on where we are both at and what we have been doing with our lives, he asked me to explain what it was I am doing here. I told him what I have as a vision and what I hope to accomplish by this. I think he was a little surprised but also very supportive.
He offered some insight that made me really start thinking. As I mentioned before, I want this to be a completely interactive experience and today was the first of hopefully many experiences from which I and you will learn from. He told me, "why focus on small MLM companies where the guy at the top makes money? Why not get alligned with larger items and become a contract sales agent for that product?"
It made perfect sense! Thank you Glenn, I found the conversation very helpful. For where I am at right now, only making $14/hr and no real means to get to meet these companies and learn about these product lines, I will stick, for now, with what I have. I am by no means closing the door on the idea. I may come back to it later and in the meantime I will research it as much as I possibly can. Glenn Also agreed to email me a basic explanation of what we discussed. I will add the email once I have received it for all to read.
I would also like to comment on the reference made to MLM businesses. When Glenn and I were discussing this, we both agreed that MLM businesses are not necessarily what we would persue for the long term, they do serve a purpose. The MLM system really works for some people and there has been instances where people have made a lot of money. In fact, I mentioned that Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump both have said that if they were starting out new, they would start a network marketing company. So in conclusion I do not want to say that network marketing companies are bad, they serve their purpose and can create some extra streams of residual income. Just make sure whatever one you go with, that it is something you can stand behind and support. People can see right through someone who doesn't beleive in what they represent!

January 2, 2008
Today was another great day. Well except for the weather. My vehicle barely started this morning because it was below -40 degrees! Whether you’re in the states or Canada, it was -40!!
Anyways, what did I accomplish today? A LOT! But before we get to that I think we should discuss how exactly this is going to work. Set some ground rules if you will. Since you are going to be following me for the next 363 days, you can ensure I follow them and if I slip up... CALL ME ON IT!!
As of right now, I am employed. I mentioned before that I work for an oil and gas construction company. That’s not entirely true. I am a contractor so technically I work for me. So I do have some experience running my own business (as well as a couple other small endeavours that didn’t pan out). Being my own boss creates a very cool situation. I can control what I get paid. So as of January 1, 2009, Scott Weller gets paid only $14/hr. I do receive time and a half on and hours worked over 8 hours.
I was considering taking away certain possessions and having to purchase them back as we proceeded along but.... ahhhh, you know what.... let’s do it! I will pack up all my clothes except for what I believe to be necessary. I mean, let’s be real, it was -40 this morning. The diesel jeans and brand name shirts will go in the box.
I will be left with:
2 hoodies
2 work shirts
2 pairs of jeans
1 leisure outfit (sweats & t-shirt)
6 pairs of socks
4 pairs of underwear
Everything else will be thrown into box and I can re purchase them back at a used clothing rate. All the proceeds to these purchases will go towards a charity yet to be determined. To choose this charity I’m asking you, my loyal readers, to choose by completing the poll on this page.
Other household stuff... I rent this place and I don’t have a TV but I do have a stereo to listen to music, a exercise bike to stay in shape and this laptop on which I type. What do you think? Should I be able to keep any of this stuff? How about this, another poll... I will keep one of the three. Which will it be? It’s up to you!
Other than that I already live very thin. The only other things I have are my books. Those I will keep because they are going to be a big part of this. From this point on though, I obviously can only buy so many books making $14/hr.
A few other things before we get started. I do have a dog so he will be my dependant (I wish I could use him for the tax advantages).
From this point on I am Scott Weller. I work for Weller Health & Safety in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. I make $14/hr and live at a rental unit in town for $800/month. I will admit I am lucky that I do have a company vehicle (phew!). Oh, and I have approximately $6500 in credit card debt and about $1000 in other loans.
The reason I am doing this, is to show that anyone can do this. I don’t want to create a situation where excuses can be made for you. I know there are people out there in way worse situations but even this situation will show an amazingly dramatic journey over the next 12 months.
Before I move on to the events of the day, I would like to tell what I have already done that may aid me in my mission. Over the last month, I have spent time sending out emails all over the place, asking for guidance and looking for a mentor. So I am already starting to network as much as I can. Also, I have read quite a few books and done a lot of research on the internet to this point. A lot of these reference materials I will refer to as we proceed.
I would also like to invite all of you to make your comments, good or bad. If you can offer some advice as I struggle or enjoy the good times along beside me. Do it! Discuss how everything is going with the entire group. Like so many other things in life what, not only I, but what all of you put into this, is what we will all get out of this. Think about what we are creating here, what “WE” are creating. This experiment could be a priceless learning tool. That’s all I want from this.
It’s 8:08 pm, what a day. I started by placing some ads on Kijiji.ca inviting renters with the dream of becoming home owners to contact me. When I was calling and making contacts in December, I came across Tony Hilderman. Tony works for a company called Trans-Terra Investments and they focus on helping newlyweds, young singles and anyone else who does not have a down payment but wants to experience the pride of being HOME owners. After a couple conversations I drove down to Calgary and met with Tony and the owner and CEO of Trans-Terra Investments, Jack Asgar-Deen. 3 hours later we both agreed to work together. So here I am with a mentor or two really!
Here comes the first plug! If you are looking to get out of that rental, don’t have any money for a down payment, visit us at http://www.trans-terrainvestments.com/ . We’ll do our best to get you into that new home in no time!
From there I signed up to be an affiliate for Global Domains International. They are a company that owns the rights to all websites that end in “.ws” So instead of http://www.example.com/, it would be http://www.example.ws/ . Our permanent home which is in process of being built is going to use a GDI domain, http://www.oneyeartofreedom.ws/. I’m not going to spend too much time on explaining what these companies are all about and their compensation plans here. I’m sure we will be learning a lot about that as we go along. For now, if you want more info on GDI and how you may be able to create a stream if income, you can visit them at http://www.freedom.ws/scottweller.
After signing up for GDI, I signed up for Carbon Copy Pro. It’s another company designed to create a residual income. Carbon Copy Pro is an internet marketing “business in a box” that is almost completely automated. Like GDI, I am not going to spend any time discussing Carbon Copy Pro at this point in time.
Lastly, I created our temporary home, right here, http://www.oneyeartofreedom.blogspot.com/. I am really stoked about this and look forward to the days, weeks and months ahead. All of you are smart enough to tell by now, following only as far as we have gotten that I have already planted seeds of which I hope wealth will grow. I hope we can learn with each other as we go along how to create that lifestyle we all crave and desire... Financial Freedom!

Introduction...
So here we are. Brand new day, brand new year. Today it is January 1, 2009. As I write this, I am sitting in my place I rent in Dawson Creek, BC. For those of you who don’t know where that is, it’s a small oil city in Northern British Columbia about 30-45 minutes from the Alberta border. Yup, I spent my New Years here, 5 ½ hours away from the people I care the most about, my family and friends.
For those of you who know me personally, you know I am not a big fan of the holiday season. The reasons are not worth mentioning here but the one part of the holiday season I DO enjoy, is New Years! So, as I was sitting here alone last night I made up my mind, “This WILL be the last New Years I spend away from my family and friends!” This has become my goal, my mission.
So, why am I writing about this you ask? Well here it is... to reach this goal, to complete this mission I have decided that I need to become financially free. Of course this will lead to many other goals that I have already set for myself but, for now this is the goal I will be focusing on. It will be the driving force behind everything I do over the next 12 months.
I choose to write about this because every day there are millions or even tens of millions of people searching for the answers to becoming free from their job, or more accurately, from their paycheque. Maybe you’re looking at retirement in the next couple of years and you have no idea how you are going to provide for yourself. These are very real concerns and problems in today’s world.
Ok, enough will all the grim news that we all hear on a day to day basis... Let’s just get down to it! If you’re reading this, it’s because you want to become financially free. This is exactly what I intend on doing. That’s right I “INTEND”... I have not reached freedom yet but that’s what makes this so exciting. This is going to be a record of my ups and downs, my successes as well as my failures along the way over the next year. I am committing the next year to all of you, to show you what worked for me and what didn’t work so well.
I will apply strategies I have learned from researching books and the internet, advice from mentors I have connected with and any other haywire ideas that my hamster wheel comes up with along the way. What I hope to accomplish here is to show a truly “REAL” experience on how to take your life from ordinary to extraordinary! I want to stress right off the bat that I am no one special, have any great connections or a pro by any means. I am as average as a person gets.
In fact, to prove this, why don’t I introduce myself...
My name is Scott Weller. I am a 29 year old guy from the Edmonton area. I grew up in a wealthy suburb of Edmonton called Sherwood Park. Before you make any assumptions, just because we lived there didn’t mean we were wealthy, far from it! We never had any fancy cars or clothes. My parents struggled but I thank them for the sacrifices they did make. They did an amazing job; raising 4 kids with the cards they were dealt. I love you Mom and Dad! Enough of the sap! I’m not going to spend much time on my childhood but it was filled with struggles of many kinds. All in all it was a great upbringing though.
I decided in my late teens that I liked to party, drink, women and dance.... WORM!! Growing up in a religious family that didn’t go over too well. To make a long story short I spent the next 6-8 years partying hard, making poor choices and neglecting my financial responsibilities. Kids, unless you are really responsible, DO NOT get a VISA at age 18! I am actually laughing to myself thinking about how stupid I was!
So fast forward a few years to age 28. This was a big year for me. I learned so much. I matured more in 6 months than I had over my entire existence to that point. I learned what it was to love but, I also learned what it was to lose that love as well. In December of 2007, completely emotionally destroyed, I locked myself in my 1 bedroom apartment, downtown Edmonton (which I was paying $1100 a month for, what a fool) I had hit my lowest point in my life. I hated my job, just lost the first woman I loved (she took the dog too) and was convinced I didn’t deserve to live. I truly hated who I was. I don’t tell you this because I am trying to be dramatic or for pity, I tell you because I want to show how low I had allowed myself to go.
As I lay there in my bed, feeling sorry for myself, wondering why nothing good ever happens to me, why I have such bad luck, I had a thought go through my mind. This thought was the beginning of the end for that Scott Weller and the first breath for the new, this Scott Weller.
That thought that ran through my mind was initially an image of a successful person. One I had passed many times while walking downtown but never gave much thought too until now. That image was accompanied by the thought, “what makes him so much more special than me?” Why is he successful and I’m not? Well that night I decided I was going to find out!
Over the last year I gained the necessary training to become an industrial health and safety representative with my National Construction Safety Officer designation. I am employed with a young company, which has grown into one the top oilfield construction companies in western Canada in a very short time. I have figured out who I am and what drives me to do what I do day in and day out. I have also become way closer with my family and friends. I just spent a week in Mexico with my longest friend and very recently I have started to work on my strained relationship with my Mother. Oh, and I got a new dog!
The last thing I will mention is that I have spent the last 6 months educating myself. I have researched and read up on subjects such as finance, investments, personal growth and the power of the human mind. All of these topics will come into play as we move ahead. If any of these subjects are new to you, as I go ahead I will be making reference to different books or other reference materials that helped me along. Some of these subjects are more important than others but we will get into that.
There you have it, the reader’s digest version of my life as it has been lived to this point. The year 2008 was amazing and I saw so many changes but 2009, even with all the outside world uncertainty, is going to be the best year yet!
What do I want to accomplish by this?
I want this to be a real life, real time financial IQ resource for people. Young and old. I want my failures to be a case study for you to study and learn from. What I want to do is to teach as many people as I struggle along. Anyone out there who sees me struggling can offer any advice at any time. This will be an interactive experience for any and all who want to participate.
One last thing before we start. I apologize for my grammatical errors or spelling mistakes along the way. I am by no means a Literary Professor like my aunt. In fact, I’m sure both my aunts are going to cringe if they ever come across this, seeing as they’re both educators! My vision is to have this be as real and genuine as possible, so you can get to know me and my personality through these unedited words.
So let’s get at it... Day one... it’s like reality blogging.... let’s see what kind of holes I can get myself into and how creative I can be to get myself back out and onto the road to freedom.
For those of you who know me personally, you know I am not a big fan of the holiday season. The reasons are not worth mentioning here but the one part of the holiday season I DO enjoy, is New Years!
